ABC Wednesday New River Bridge
This is the New River bridge in Fayette County, West Virigina ( I am originally from this lovely state)...It is featured on the State quarters. This past weekend was "bridge weekend" where parachutists jumped from the bridge. Go here to learn more about one of the oldest rivers in the world.

I saw the bridge jumping on TV and your picture helps me imagine the scale a bit more.
ReplyDeleteHey Neva, I drive over that bridge several times a year heading to the midwest. I have always wanted to see them crazies doing the jump.
ReplyDeleteI love hiking along the new river,
nice pic!
Wow! Hubby, being an engineer will love this bridge!
ReplyDeleteNeva, in reply to your question: Yes I do know where Buckhannon is. I was raised in Summers County, which borders Fayette County. It is a small world!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful sight! Someone has been posting about the New River but I've added so many links lately I haven't sorted out who's who yet.
ReplyDeleteDot, Kerri has been posting about the New River as well ...it is what prompted my ABC Wed!
ReplyDeleteas an engineer i can only marvel at it .....it's a great piece of engineering...most of the bridges are :)
ReplyDeleteIt is a beautiful bridge. Wow, I did not know that this is considered the oldest river after Nile.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it amazing what you learn blogging?? I LOVE the blogging world.
ReplyDeletePretty scary stuff!!!
ReplyDeleteWalking over it would be a challenge - let alone jumping off the thing!!!!
Love the way the arch frames the top of the photo.
ReplyDeleteLooks pretty tall!
ReplyDeleteI like the metal construction of the bridge. It always intrigues me that some one sits down and designs it, another makes up the parts from the design and then it all fits together with such precision.
ReplyDeleteThe Wikipaedia view also gives a nice sense of scale
Wow, there's actually an old river called New River. It looks like a beautiful place. Parachuting off the bridge? It doesn't look high enough.
ReplyDeleteBridge jumping. Sounds scary. Still I like this photo and the facts quite a bit. Thanks for visiting my N is for New, too.
ReplyDeleteNice photo neva, looks good looking along that river, it reminds me of a photograph I once took looking down our river severn.
ReplyDeleteThanks for commenting on my blog, hope I did not upset you with my comment about scroll bars, was not directed at anyone in particular, just an offhand comment.
Keep Blogging
nice photo
ReplyDeletebeautiful image.
ReplyDeleteI like the view and the bridge seems quite amazing, but no jumping over that bridge. No thank you!
ReplyDeleteNeva - a few of us had 'water' orientated posts. :) Spectacular bridge with a great link. I bet it's been used in films.
ReplyDeleteHave you seen France's new bridge the Viaduct de Millau? It's reckoned to be one of the new wonders of the world.
We have a few of the UK's oldest bridges in our area, General Wade's bridges dating back from 1725!
Adventurers visit there, I see.
ReplyDeleteAmazing architecture and thanks for the information. I didn't know it either.
ReplyDeleteGreat N posting.
Hi Neva
