Driving along

I mentioned I made a trip to Ohio on Sunday and drove by this sign. My blogger friend oldmanlincoln lives here. I waved as I went by but it is hard to take a picture while you are driving in the mist and not get it blurry! Stop by and visit his blog. I like it very much.

West African Drummers

I took my daughter back to school yesterday and she talked me into coming to her West African Dance Class before I left for home. These musicians played for almost 2 straight hours....I do not know how their arms didn't fall off...but they were pretty awesome. Go here to read more about the class.

Ohio

I spent 12 hours Sunday in the car driving from Illinois to Dayton, Ohio to pick up my daughter who had lost her ride home and she needed to get back to school. This is what you see when you come from Indiana into Ohio.

Leaves are still here

This is the only tree that still has its leaves after our rain and snow and wind the other day. It is a sugar maple and I am perplexed as to why it does still have leaves and every other tree-except the oaks-have lost theirs. Interesting.

Leafless Inverness tree

I knew there would be no red on this sugar maple after the 2 days of rain we had! It is our Thanksgiving morning and it has sprinkled snow!....and all the leaves are gone...at least off of the sugar maple. I so love the red leaves and am sorry it didn't happen this year. Hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving. There were 28 at our celebration. A fun time was had by all!

An Inverness Castle

We fondly call this the "Castle" even though we clearly know it is a Silo. It is our town hall, but really, the closest Inverness, Il will ever get to a castle.

A Jet stream

Coming home from work yesterday, I looked up and saw this. If you enlarge this you should see two jet streams and one regular plane. Aren't I glad I had my camera handy?

Fall on the Kanawha River

My mom lives in West Virginia and she was out taking some pictures and she sent some to me. I loved this picture with its fall colors and thought I would share. This is the Kanawha River near Charleston, W.Va. The word "Kanawha" means "place of white stone" from the Native American Indians in that area due to salt being found in the area. The Adena Indians were supposedly settled in this area around 1,000 B.C. You can go here if you want to learn more.

ABC Wednesday Querbes

I thought "Q" might be hard to do but not so much! Father Louis Querbes-the founder of the Clerics of Saint Viator. In 1831, Father Louis Querbes of Lyon, France established a religious community of young men to assist the clergy in their parish work, especially in the teaching of catechism to young men. This association of young men grew into a religious community.

A frosty Inverness morning

The 3 trees down near the street are the Mountain Ash. I will miss them when they go but we are not going to cut them down until they are gone. I have neighbor who is trying to save his trees and spending a lot of money on pesticides I'm sure. I think it is a lost cause. The Ash borer will get them anyway. There are no Elm trees left due to Dutch elm disease. I don't imagine the Mountain Ash will fare any better. Clancy was off on a mission on this frosty morning....He has figured out the electric fence(where he can go without getting zapped) so he was feeling pretty bold today.

My side yard

Just thought I would show you some of the neighborhood. This is out my garage. We own up to the oak tree on the far right. The one tree closest to the street is a Mountain Ash. With the ash borer on the loose, we expect to lose this one as well as the 2 you can't see after next summer. *sigh*

3 Mighty Inverness Oaks

As you come around the corner before you get to my house...you see these lovely oak trees. They hold their leaves all winter...I found that strange for the longest time... I am used to them now!

ABC Wednesday Pictures

I work in a High School and these pictures were all done by students. They are displayed outside of the library. These are the pictures that were chosen by the Principal of the school as "best in show" from the Fine Arts Spring Show. The principal purchases them and they are forever displayed in the school...hence the name..."Principal's Purchase Award"!

What sign

Posted by Picasa

There are 2 signs in the front of my subdivision. I came home the other night and saw this....the signs were gone. I assumed it was a Halloween prank. As it turned out, the signs were sent out to be painted and are back now.

This is what it is supposed to look like...

Road block

I was on my way to a doctor's appointment (running late due to traffic) and this is about 4 minutes from where I needed to be. They are pulling a cable (maybe electric) across the road...blocking 4 lanes of traffic. Needless to say, I was a few minutes late for my appointment...something that annoys me no end...being late. *sigh*
