Congress Avenue on New Year's Day

This is Congress Avenue downtown Chicago. The long, gray building goes over the expressway and is part of the United States Postal System. This was taken on New Year's Day before all our snow melted.

  1. I wonder why government buildings all look like mental institutions and even the post office looks like that?

  4. I guess only on New Year's Day you can see that avenue with almost no cars...
The building is big but not very pretty.

  7. Isn't it amazing how empty streets can get on holidays? That building reminds me of our old Sears building here...I'll have to take a photo sometime soon for you...

  8. That's what always hits me when I travel from Florida to Michigan: after the pastels of Naples, midwest looks pretty grey!

  10. Looks like a prison to me. I bet the postal employees think that also.

  11. Given that this stretch is normally packed with cars, it is a bit eerie to see!
