An Insect on my car
When I went to go to work one day last week, this charming insect was on my door...my husband wanted to know why I didn't remove it before I drove off.....puhleeessee....as IF I would touch ANY insect voluntarily! I wasn't even sure what this was....a praying mantis I thought except it's brown and I didn't think they could be brown......

I think it is a praying mantis, but I am sure there are better specialists than me, such as Abraham :-)) who will confirm. I protect all animals, including insects. I must be a little bit of a buddhist :-))
ReplyDeleteI don't have a clue but I would have done the same thing: get my camera and capture it! :)
ReplyDeleteI posted a picture of a praying mantis on ABC WEdnesday and it's the same color.
ReplyDeleteI think it's a stick bug...Rather cute, for a bug ;-)
ReplyDeletesurely it's nobbut a little cricket - also known as grasshoppers or cicadas -- perfectly harmless.
ReplyDeleteG'day Neva,

Hmm, i think it's a praying mantis too. I usually flick them away if I see them around. I'm not sure, but I think the female eats the male after they have mated...or is that an urban myth??
ReplyDeleteEnlarge the photo you can see very large bug eyes.
ReplyDeleteYuck! I'm with you. I love photographing insects but could never touch one - especially that size! :)
ReplyDeleteI would have took one look at that and walked to work, or fainted. ha!
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking it is a praying manta. But not sure. Next time, Neva, you'll find that newspaper is good to take bugs out of the car. One way or another. This is, or they take it by good after a "chooo, shôoo" or the bad way... smack!!!!
ReplyDeleteSorry... just kidding. Always the good way.
Fine shot! Yes, thats a praying mantis.
ReplyDeletenice photo.
ReplyDeleteThat is a great insect! I am glad you took a photo!
ReplyDeletethanks for stopping by my blog today.
Hi Neva,
ReplyDeleteI Don't know what it is, it shoud be better outside ever...
JoAnn :)
hey mom that's a preying mantis. they're really special insects, please don't kill them! =)
ReplyDeletedid you know that:
-the mantis will attack butterflies, bees, beetles, frogs, spiders, mice, lizards, and small birds
-the female sometimes EATS the male after mating!
-AND the mantis also bites the neck of its prey to paralyze it before consumption! COOOOOOOOOOOL
I did not kill this creature...I left it alone and drove off...the next I looked, it was gone....
