A Cross

There was a lot of controversy when this cross was built. It is made out of acrylic and it took quite a few years after it was built to get this. They sell small replicas of this but this was over a million dollars to build. The church was designed as all churches in our Archdiocese now demand....in the semi round.

  1. Do you mean the church cost that much or just the cross? They are both beautiful.

  2. Je la trouve tres belle, on dirait qu'elle est en cristal.

I find it very beautiful, one would say that it is out of crystal.

  6. Dot, the church cost almost 3 million to build. At one point they were planning on stained glass in the windows but I believe they have passed on that idea due to the cost or maybe because of the cross. Not sure as we attend a different Catholic church now so I don't keep up on the plans.

  7. This is a beautiful cross, Neva.
To answer your question about the four pictures in one, I used Google Picasa 2, a photo editing program that you can download from Google for free. It's is very easy to use.

  9. Both of us have posted photos of churches today! Mine is old and it certainly didn't cost a million dollars to rehabilitate it. The cross is beautiful but too expensive in my opinion.

  11. RR- thanks for the info --hadn't looked that far into Google Picasa 2 but I found it.
Jo-ann- this is in a suburb of Chicago, Illinois, USA.
Marie....we are on the same wavelength these few days!
bc-I think the cost came into having to build a special mold to hold it and transport it and all kinds of stuff. The artist was in the west and it had to go to the east and then here to the midwest with cranes to put it in and they had to take out the window you see in order to get it in the church as it was put in only about 5 years ago and the church was built in 1988. I can't imagine how much it would have cost if they didn't use acrylic! Glad you all liked it.
