Our Rural Fire Department
Because we live in an area without industry, our village has to contract with our closest community(Palatine) for fire services....rural....We have no sewers(septic system), no fire hydrants, and we have wells....So, we have to have pumper trucks available for a fire...Let me be the first to tell you that any house that has ever caught on fire in the village has usually been beyond saving. The truck can only hold 1,000 gallons of water. Not enough to put out a fire.....We hope never to have a fire...unless I want to remodel...;0)!

There are some things more valuable than the city amenities. And Iverness seems to have an abundance of THEM.
ReplyDeleteSomehow the not really existed of fire service is a good lesson to teach the population to REALLY VERY careful, after all,the fire almost all because of Human error and you are lucky not often get disturb by the siren of fire trucks as we do often have in here and MOST of all I do hope you will NEVER have your house on fire!
ReplyDeleteWow! They should get those things no matter what it cost.
ReplyDeleteAs with every place you choose to live, you have to balance the good with the bad. Looks and sounds like a nice place to live.
ReplyDeleteI agree with dot....
ReplyDeleteWe have a lot of firefighters, much water, etc. in Montpellier but when a house catches on fire, it burns down.
Can you drink the water of the wells?
Marie,
ReplyDeletethanks for all your nice comments....yes, you can drink the well water...it is your only option for water.....wells are dug before the house is built to make sure there is a well on the property....we are each in charge of our own well...nothing to do with the village....it would be outrageously expensive to try and do city water and sewers as most of the houses are on an acre or more....so the village wouldn't even consider it....
Yes, all about balance I guess. Your village sounds wonderful. I also live in a village, on the Pacific coast of Australia. Our closest Rural Fire Service station is about 8 minutes away, but, because it's a volunteer service, the fire truck can't leave for the fire till the firefighters get to the station! and dress in their gear.
ReplyDeleteHi Neva
ReplyDeleteThanks for dropping by to visit me and for all your nice comments. I am still a real novice and have found this very challenging!!!
I understand where you are coming from with this post. I too live in a village with no sewage and no fire hydrants but we do have town water. One of my posts last week was of a fire which the fire- brigade attended with only the water they could carry. Half-way thru they had to go back to the station to get more water!!!! Luckily it rained and help contain the fire and stop it from burning near-by buildings!!!!
Drinking well water must save you a fortune. We live in a mid-size city and only drink bottled water. We miss well water from our youth.
