Lightning Strike

I mentioned it rained here last week.....and it was also a lightning storm along with the rain. While standing in the den, I have never heard or seen a clap of thunder and lightning together so close to me or the house. The house shook. My son and I felt sure the house had been struck by lightning but fortunately it just scared us. Alas, the next day, we noticed this tree...which is in our side yard....had been hit by lightning. There is a mark like this one up in the tree as well as on the other side. Notice the dirt blown away at the bottom on either side. This is a Mountain Ash so it is not long for this world -thanks to the Emerald Ash Borer-regardless of the lightning strike!

  2. Thank God! it was only the tree. How did the dogs react to such a loud storm?

  3. Simon(with the white tail in the photo)is NOT a big fan of storms....Clancy, well, he is such a "guy" I don't think he even noticed it was storming and Tessie can' thear anymore so she was fine!

  4. was going to ask if that was a dog's tail at the bottom but ypou've asnwered already.

Once it goes, hope they'll plant something else, or maybe it'll stay and grow mossy

  5. Gosh that must have been a bit frightening. What a mark it left on that poor tree. Thank goodness it wasn't your house. Didn't realize there was such a problem with beetles on Mountain Ash.
Here in BC, Canada our forests have been nearly wiped out by the rice-sized Pine Beetle - such a tiny insect yet such a tremendous amount of damage.
