ABC Wednesday O is for O'Laughlin
One of the things I acquired when I married was the ability to tell people I am "IBM"....Irish by Marriage! I am American and there you have it.....anyway....It's ABC Wednesday...O is for O'Laughlin ...Americanized from Ireland from O'Loughlin to O'Laughlin at Ellis Island. The crest stands for the anchor of salvation and the O'Loughlin's come from the County Clare. I think this means they were archers when they were fighting or whatever they were doing! Please stop by Mrs Nesbitts and see what wonderful things others came up with for the letter "O"!

ReplyDeleteLouis always likes to read these historical posts wherever he finds them. The family of Louis's mother originated in Normandie. They have the family traced back to about the 10th century.

ReplyDeleteTop o' the morning to ya! ANYWAY... its interesting to see how names change through history. My family surname is the same. My dad discovered it researching our family history.
ReplyDeleteWow, how cool it is to have a crest and know your family history.
ReplyDeleteHow cool to have archers in the family history and crest. The English (and by extension Irish) archers were quite the elite fighters back in the middle ages and hundred years war.
ReplyDeleteGreat 'O' post. Ellis Island was responsible for a lot of changes.
ReplyDeletethanks for sharing, a nice badge (am I right here?, lol).
ReplyDeleteVery orginal and good "O" post.
ReplyDeleteLast week was Neva (with nephews, but still Neva), this week was O'laughlin... what's next week going to be... i don't think you have any P's in your name, and you're running out of names, so it looks like you're going to have to think hard now!
ReplyDeleteLucky you to have your own crest!
ReplyDeleteOh this is great! I like your version of IBM too :)
