Flashlight Display

Saturday, I found myself in Evanston, Illinois near Northwestern University. This display is found in the Progress Gallery at 824 Noyes Street. It is quite a nice display of flashlights as well as the Gallery displays prints of artist Robert Reddy, who was trained as a painter and has been working in the digital realm for 19 years. Some of the flashlights on the wall date from the late 1890's. I was just amazed. The art work was awesome as well but I did not take a picture of them.

  1. I never would have thought to make a collection of flashlights. I can say that when Patty and I got married about 52 1/2 years ago there was little or no air conditioning anywhere, so one of the things we needed was an electric fan which we still have. All metal with a cast iron base. And it rotated and is a desk fan. My daughter wants it in the worst way after we are dead. LOL. She is starting a collection of fans.

    Have a good week.

  3. How intriguing and interesting. Torches from that far back must be fascinating.

I looked up the artist but then got confused cos there is a Robert Reddy who is a tattoo artist with a website - brilliant art work on bodies! So I don't think it's him from what you say. Amazing what you find when yu do a search!

(mine is called useless information, Neva!) Lovely photo by the way.

  6. Interesting collection. I would think J Peterman or Eddie Bauer would replicate these eventually. Everything old is new...that sort of thing.

  7. I can always please my grandson by giving him a flashlight in the evening. He's in heaven. Think what he'd want to do if I took him to take gallery.

  8. I too, would not think about collecting flashlights. Even so, they hold special memories of childhood for me. I remember every Christmas making sure I had enough money left after buying gifts for mom and dad to get myself new batteries for my flashlight. Spent a good amount of time reading under the covers after I was supposed to be asleep. -:)

Thanks for both the memories, your visit and comments on my blog.

  9. Did they have a collection of toasters given away by Savings and Loan companies for opening a new account? Inquiring minds want to know...

Yes, the $4.00 toll on the Bay Bridge will take your breath away as will the $5.00 one on the Golden Gate Bridge. The Golden Gate Bridge is talking of raising the toll to $8.00 during commute hours!

  10. Sometime you hear about a collection and it sounds a bit dull.. but once you force yourself to look at the detales and memories come back and you are soon amazed by it. I have seen some strang collection of stuff so I just know I would have stood there studying these.

  13. I didn't realize there's so many different kinds of flashlights or knew they even had any in the 1890's.
