ABC Wednesday I is for Illinois
I bet you thought I would do Inverness!
I live in the state of Illinois and this was taken at a University of Illinois football game last fall. (The Fighting Illini is what the University is called in the college world!)On Dec. 3, 1818, Illinois became the 21st of 50 states. The nickname is The Prairie State, the motto is 'State sovereignty, National union', the origin of the name of Illinois came from Algonquin for "tribe of superior men".
Make sure you try and visit all the ABC participants over at Mrs. Nesbitts place!
Have a great day.
Also, just an FYI or my pet peeve...Illinois is pronounced the French way ....without an "s"... ill-a-noy.

ReplyDeleteYea! Great idea for your ABC Wednesday post, Neva--the Fighting Illini from Inverness, Illinois. Nice job.
ReplyDeleteI deleted my first comment because I forgot to check for typos. . .
ReplyDeleteGreat thinking! I would have liked to post something from Idaho but scanner is down and I haven't been to Idaho since I got my digital camera.
Naturally you'd do Illinois - so would I if I lived there. I've heard so much about the mid-West that I must get there some day. :D
ReplyDeleteYou have many perfect "I's" for this week!!
ReplyDeleteYou're right; I thought it would be Inverness for sure. that's a massive stadium. How many does it seat?
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! :)
ReplyDeleteI too thought it would be Inverness! LOL! Just goes to show...ABC Wednesday is anything but predictable.
ReplyDeleteThat is nice you were able to use Illinois. And the football game is really clever. Your narrative is interesting too.
ReplyDeleteAbraham Lincoln
Brookville, Ohio
Marvellous the photograph for letter `' I `' and splendid the comment with all these the information!
ReplyDeleteGreat shots, esp the first one, as if the 'I's were there for you to capture. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI like your idea!
ReplyDeleteJust dropping by to wishing you and your family a Happy Easter!
Don't know what I expected but you "do" Inverness all the the time so I would certainly expect something slightly different.
ReplyDeleteIllinois was never very good when I grew up downstate. I like the coach they have now. Great picture.
ReplyDeleteHi. Very nice with Illinois! Good job.
ReplyDeleteI've been pronouncing it wrong for years! Good post.
ReplyDeleteI see that you got to meet one of my favorite bloggers. I always enjoy her pictures.
I see you are a big fan!
ReplyDeleteWell done.
Great "I" post. I enjoyed the state facts as well. We are starting our Texas unit and the kiddos will be learning that kind of thing.
ReplyDeleteI like to add the s in it just to tick off my illinois friends!
ReplyDeleteI see you use the rebel xti, I do too, I love it!
Ah, yes.. the Illini.... LOL. (from a Hoosier, why didn't I use that for "h"? Maybe next time).
ReplyDeleteI liked your post anyway. LOL. LOL. LOL.
You have a built in I readya dn waiting for your camera.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea for I with those Illini flags showing off their I! Have a great week...
ReplyDeletePerfect post for the I and probably would have done the same had I been in your shoes!
ReplyDeleteThe Rocky Mountain Retreat
Great post for I, and we have the same problem when people say Oregon. I love the different ways they say it.
ReplyDeleteI love football, it is the only sport I watch. I got a chance to go to a game at the University of TN. when Heath Schuler (sorry I know what is spelled wrong) was still playing there. It is always fun to watch a game in person.
ReplyDeleteInteresting!
ReplyDeletethat's what I call a game, lots of people, color, music,..., excellent.
ReplyDeleteGood post. You will be happy to know that I have always pronounced your state the right way. :-)
ReplyDeleteOne of our local sports radio stations also calls them the Fighting Zookers in honor of Ron Zook who some of the hosts got to be friends with while he was at the U. of Florida. I was happy to see Ill-in-noy knock of Ohio State last year. :)
ReplyDeleteGreat photographs here! And I have the same peeve about the pronunciation.
ReplyDeleteAnd let's not forget the people who pronounce Missouri like Missourah.
Thanks for stopping by my site and for leaving a comment!
Love you post, I like Illinois, too. I'm a California Girl, but they taught us the correct pronounciation. The only people I recall mispronouncing were midwesterners, strange.
ReplyDeleteGreat "I" post.
ReplyDeleteA perfect I for you!
ReplyDeleteNice choice for I!
ReplyDeleteSo colorful too.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the imformation about your home state. I like facts! Lively photo too :)
ReplyDeleteOh, I thought the motto of Ill-in-oy was "Land of Lincoln." I definitely would have gotten that wrong on a trivia quiz. LOL
ReplyDeleteLove your post
ReplyDeleteHow could I not think of Illinois when I live here. Oh well, good job to you for thinking of it :)
ReplyDeleteExcellent post, and "I"nformative, too.
ReplyDeleteThey are some big flags there!
ReplyDeleteI'm always amazed at the huge crowd that get along to college sports in the US.
Perfect I post. How nice to have 2 I's to use. I like the game picture too.
ReplyDeletePerfect for I! Good to also clear up confusion about pronunciation.
ReplyDeleteKathy b
I thought it was pronounced ill-i-noise! Just kidding. That team did pretty good last year, if I remember correctly. Great choice for an I.
ReplyDeleteI was born and raised in IL. When people mispronounced it we would say, there's no "noise" in Illinois!
ReplyDeleteWow, that is a packed stadium. Looks like you had pretty good seats, but close to the end zone. As a kid, I thought it was pronounced "Illi-noise".
ReplyDeleteAs for the ibis bird, I took a picture of the sign. There's no way I would remember it. :D
But just think, if Illinois was pronounced in the irritating way, you could say there were a bunch of Illinoisy people at that ballgame.
ReplyDeleteYou fooled me Neva :)
ReplyDeleteGreat to see you're keeping us on our toes...
