ABC Wednesday B is for Brandt's Little Cafe

Brandt's, a gray stone building, has become a suburban landmark. It dates back more than 120 years and originally was a farmhouse in Inverness, according to our local newspaper, The Daily Herald. It is really an old, dark bar that does not use traditional menus....they write it on a chalkboard...but has the BEST burgers and ribs, in my opinion.

Power lines

Many places have power lines that are under ground. These are obviously not underground.

On the street where I live

This is what my street in front of my house looked like this morning.....Shades of grey.

Bird's nest

I thought there were just a bunch of leaves left in this tree after all the wind and snow we've had, I found that to be remarkable. On closer inspection, it appears to be a bird's nest.

An Old House

I pass this house on my way to work everyday....it is considered a historical landmark as it was built in 1875 or somewhere near there....

This is what it looks like out my back deck door this morning at 6 AM. I knew we wouldn't be long without snow!

No snow just water

Our snow is all gone but the ground is so wet the ditches have filled. The geese like this very much!

Shampoo anyone

My daughter needed a haircut so here we are at the HairCuttery...A nice haircut for an inexpensive price!

Signs

This is at the local United States Post Office near my house. If you look closely, one can see MANY signs. I have always chuckled at how many there are where you can drive by and drop off your mail.

ABC Wednesday Yellow Yeast

Neighborhood Night shot

This is another attempt at a night shot. I am amazed that it looks so much like day as it was late at night....this little ditch is usually snow covered and frozen....my dogs think this is a great place to visit....I, of course, frown on their muddy paws but what's a girl to do? Much of the winter wildlife likes this area and I am sure that is one reason the dogs love it!

St. Alexius

This is the closest hospital to Inverness. I was here visiting a friend who has fallen and broken his hip. St. Alexius is run by the Alexian Brothers. They have two hospitals in the area. This one and their other one is called Alexian Brothers Medical Center. Yes, it is confusing. You just hope your ambulance driver knows the difference!(Only for speed...they are both excellent hospitals!)

Congress Avenue on New Year's Day

This is Congress Avenue downtown Chicago. The long,gray building goes over the expressway and is part of the United States Postal System. This was taken on New Year's Day before all our snow melted.

Not a Partridge in a Pear tree

While walking the dogs yesterday, we passed these bushes/trees and the birds were very vocal! I am not sure what kind of birds they are but I was surprised I was able to see them to snap them.

Last view of Cabela's

There is stuff to buy at Cabela's... but the display at the top is what caught my eye. Lots of stuffed animals here....I am not big on hunting but this store also has lots of sports equipments...for skiing, or snow blowing or just about anything people do outside...camping, dog stuff.... the list is endless. Obviously they sell guns....I just noticed that is what is on the back wall. The store is like no other store I have been in. Worth a trip if you live near one.

An Inverness house

When this house was built, it was show cased in the local newspaper and had a very nice article about the architect. I didn't save the article but I wish I had. I don't remember the architect but he did a very nice job.

Cabela's-another view

On the opposite side of the fall scene is the winter scene at Cabela's. There are little tags next to all the animals that say when and where they were located/shot( I assume). Some of the tags are from the 70's. It is nice to know that the taxidermists know how to make them last!

ABC Wednesday X is Xenia, Ohio

I was wondering what I could do for "X"...x-ray obviously as I am a retired x-ray tech I have a few...even the one of my broken little finger! but figured everyone would do that....so my mom, on her way home, drove through the town of Xenia, Ohio...just East of Dayton, and took this picture. Thanks, Mom!
And since no one did an X-Ray, I feel compelled to do one since this was what I did for years. So here is a foot, a wrist and a finger...but not mine!!

Cabela's- A Hunting

This is the first thing you see when you walk through the doors of Cabela's.
This is a hunting/sporting goods store. It is unbelievable. I thought I was at the zoo- the stuffed zoo!
