While I was out and about I saw this goose....seemed to be lost, just wandering around the parking lot....low and behold...there is a nest of eggs right in the median.....all of this is unusual as it is not nesting season for geese (or is it?)and there was only one (I thought they mated for life) and it is in a very busy Parking lot.....

I guess it is more of a "if you got to lay eggs you better lay eggs."
ReplyDeleteHow unusual! You would think the eggs would be laid in a more secluded place. I hope the babies will not be harmed in such an open area.
ReplyDeleteThat seems strange. Perhaps she just couldn't hold the eggs in any longer and had to stop and lay them!
ReplyDeleteThis is really fascinating Neva. There are some birds here,plovers for example, that will nest & lay eggs in the middle of a playing field or somewhere equally unsympathetic,( like your median strip) & then guard it aggressively for the time it takes for the eggs to hatch & the chicks to become independent. Amazing behaviour isn't it?
ReplyDeleteMakes you wonder if that bird knows what she's doing. Shouldn't she be sitting on the eggs? Maybe she's a bit feather-brained.
