Almost Heaven, West Virginia

This is a picture off my mom's back porch. She lives in West Virginia (where I grew up) and I just love this shot..
The river is called the Coal River. It dumps into the Kanawha River which goes to
the Ohio River which then empties into the mighty Mississippi. Coal River got its name due to a coal mine at the mouth of the river emptying all of the coal dust into it and the river turning black. The mine has been closed for decades but the name stayed.

  1. Beautiful scenery and a lovely song.

  2. The coal dust probably stuck around for a while, too...

    Nice shot!

  3. Hi Neva! Still all that snow? We had enough rain for the next year... ;)
