Saucer Magnolia

This Saucer Magnolia Tree is outside the door I go through everyday when I get to work. It bloomed over night and then the rains continued and most of the beautiful flowers are now on the ground...

The house with the beautiful flowers was having some tree work done yesterday. Amazing how efficiently these guys work from the cherry picker!

Before the rain came yesterday, this is what the trees in our yard and neighbor's yard looked like when the sun was setting.......one of the nicest fall colors I have seen is here.(scroll past the murals...you will be glad you did! Thanks Michelle!)

University of Illinois

 
I went down to Champagne, Illinois for their Homecoming game against Minnesota...Most of you know I am not a football fan.....I usually go down to see my daughter who was in school there. However, she has graduated and not there now (she is still in Costa Rica) but I went anyway with a friend who had an extra ticket....
When I can tell it is a bad game....then it must be horrible. The Illini lost 20 to 27 and played pretty dismally.....As we were leaving, the beautiful trees as they are changing colors just looked wonderful against all the orange of the fans shirts. They have just finished remodeling the stadium with something like skyboxes...I don't really remember what they are called...which is why the construction fences are still up. And, yes, I also had orange on...it is one of the colors I like, fortunately!

Austrian Pines

These are Austrian Pines in our front yard that seemed to have gone haywire in their growing. I came home and found that my favorite yard guy (husband) had had enough and "trimmed" them.


The back yard looked like a tornado had come through...but no...it was just the electric saw run by hubby!

A 400 year old hemlock

This is one of the many trees in the old growth forest....hemlock. What I know is that if you have hemlocks, the needles drop off this tree to the soil and make the soil acidic. This forest actually had a logging cabin museum in it so I imagine that some of this was logged at one point but not all of it. Hence the name, old growth forest in lower Michigan. Interesting.

An old forest

Last week, I took the daughter back to Michigan for her summer job. On the way there, the newly graduated Natural Resource and Environmental Science Major, wanted to stop and see this forest. It is the oldest growth forest in lower Michigan. So, we stopped and saw some wonderful old trees.

Weeping Cherry Trees

I posted these a few weeks ago when it was raining....this is what they look like today! Spring is coming slowly but definitely it is here!

Redbud tree

This is my sister's redbud tree in her backyard. Her tulips were lovely and when I got back to Inverness from Manassas, it is like God has decided to grace us with some buds of our own but not to the degree of this tree yet!

Weeping Cherry trees

It seemed appropriate to show the weeping cherry trees in the pouring down rain! This is my neighbor's side yard.

Power lines

Many places have power lines that are under ground. These are obviously not underground.
