ABC Wednesday F is for fountain

It is ABC Wednesday hosted by Denise. Please stop and visit ABC around the world.....
This is a fountain at McCormick Place in Chicago. McCormick Place is one of the sites that would be used if Chicago wins the bid for the 2016 Summer Olympics.

spring

The sun came out but not enough to melt our snow. To be fair, it IS still winter here. Spring will not happen until April. We do get used to snow and cold here in the Midwest.

My front walk

This is what it looked like out my front door yesterday at 5:45 AM.....notice the little puppy foot prints. The dogs love the snow. Hopefully, it will melt sooner than later!

American Legion

This was an odd site even in the cemetery. The marker seems to be very old but is has the clearest engraving on it. There were no other markings on this...so...the date....hmmmm...when he was born? died? He was in the American Legion which means he fought in an American war. In 1844...well...The American Legion was not founded until 1919 so that would indicate that this fellow was maybe BORN in 1844? A confusing head stone.....especially since it looks like it has been broken in half....What do you think?

A little bit lost

Occasionally, I will walk through old cemeteries (I admit I have mostly done this with my Mother in law or grandfather). There is one in my neighborhood that I have visited a time or two-it has the same last name AS my MIL- but I hate to go there because it is always locked so I feel like I am a criminal while there. It has not been used (as in any one buried there) for over 60 years (I think that is what I read). This monument is in the cemetery from yesterday. A very small, cemetery near where we used to live. This seems to be a child's grave but I could find no legible writing on it. There is a plaque but I couldn't make it out.

ABC Wednesday E is for Elk.....

Elk Grove Village, a town not far from Inverness and where we used to live. This is a public, old cemetery that needs some serious attention. It is right next to the I-90/Kennedy expressway and very near the on/off ramp. There is an electric box very near the front of it and is difficult to find. My choice for E....and yes, Elk Grove used to have Elk. They are in the forest preserve right down the street and there is a fence around that part of the forest preserve to keep them safe...but I could not find them with my camera!
Enjoy more ABC's here, hosted by Denise, the fourth round.

Deer

Posted by Picasa

I was coming home and saw these deer.....gives a new meaning to "deer in the headlights" but they stood there for sometime before they decided to bolt away. I was frantically trying to find my camera --which was in the back seat----before they decided to either run away or run in front of me. I did catch a nice photo of them in my side mirror.Posted by Picasa

Christmas bulbs

Yesterday, these were out on the tree but today when I drove by, they were down. It did finally get to 40* and melt the snow. Posted by Picasa

ABC Wednesday D is for Dogs

It is ABC Wednesday again and we are in round 4 hosted by Denise.
NO surprise I did my dogs...or at least 2 of them.....The black one is Clancy, you might recognize him in my profile photo and Sparty, the King Charles Cavalier Spaniel.....they are a hoot together....Sparty thinks he is a 90 pound dog like Clancy....actually very fun to watch. Make sure you stop over and see all the other ABC participants.

Christmas?

I assume that after our expected high of almost 60 today, the snow will ALL be gone. My neighbors have not removed their Christmas decorations as the snow has been too high to get the ladder out.....I don't mind looking at their wreath until warmer weather......

Brownstones

Posted by Picasa

I drive by this everyday to work as well....they just finished these and have been trying to sell them. I am not sure how that will go considering the economic climate we are currently suffering through. These are right across the street from a train station that will take you downtown to Chicago so maybe it is all about the location.

Dirty snow

I stop at these two houses on the way to work thanks to a traffic light! I am constantly watching the snow mounds to see how much they are melting but really , all they get is dirty.......
